How Does a Crown Work?

A crown, which is sometimes called a cap, is used to cover a tooth that has been damaged. While protecting your tooth and providing strength, our porcelain crowns also look just like your natural teeth. It typically takes at least two visits to our office to place a dental crown. During your first visit, your tooth will be prepared, and we will place a temporary crown while your permanent restoration is being custom-made. When you return, we will place your permanent crown. A dental crown can also be attached to a surgically placed dental implant to replace a missing tooth and provide normal tooth shape and function.

How Does a Dental Bridge Work?

When a tooth or teeth are missing, they create a gap in the mouth that needs to be filled. Left untreated, the existing teeth will shift and more serious dental issues will follow. A bridge can replace these missing teeth by “bridging” that gap. In most cases, bridges are attached to the natural teeth on either side. These teeth are typically treated with crowns for additional strength and support. Bridges can also be attached to dental implants.
